Continental Drift by Russell Banks
This 1985 novel by Russell Banks follows two different narrative streams, one around Bob Dubois, a transplanted New Englander trying to earn a living in Florida, and the other around Vanise, a Haitian woman trying to get to the US. Eventually the two streams come together. Banks is good. His novel Cloudsplitter, written about the life of the abolitionist John Brown, was what I stumbled across first. It was phenomenal. Continental Drift I couldn’t put down either. Grade: B+
