The Untouchables by Eliot Ness with Oscar Fraley
Most are familiar with the story of Al Capone and how his bootlegging empire was brought down by Eliot Ness and his squad of Untouchables, and this paperback provides a good version of it. This is written directly by Ness (or as he told it to a ghostwriter) in a candid first-person account. He died just after approving the final galleys. Ness comes across as a bit of a stiff, but this just helps the veracity of his account. A very colorful bit of history. Grade: B-
