When They Burned the White House

whentheyburnedthewhitehouseWhen They Burned the White House by Andrew Tully

The Andrew Tully novel When They Burned the White House is a novelization of the capture and occupation of the brand-new capitol, Washington D.C., by the British during the war of 1812. The novel presents history as best it can, and accurately, as far as my historical knowledge goes, anyway. It puts words into the mouths of famous people from history, like James Madison, and a number of other soldiers and politicians of that era. An enjoyable book from an interesting and often overlooked part of US history. Grade: C

mass market paperback

Popular Library April 1963
