Clown Girl

clowngirlClown Girl by Monica Drake

Clown Girl is a sharp, clever book, but also very dark and strange. Clown Girl lives in Baloneytown, and tries to find artistry in her clown work amid bad gigs, corporate clowning, rubber chickens, and petty crime. But there’s more than humor here. Clown Girl raises questions about prejudice and class, about hope and despair.

The book has glowing blurbs from Chuck Palahniuk, and Katherine Dunn, author of the similarly weird and wonderful book Geek Love

Here the first sentence: Balloon Tying for Christ was the cheapest balloon manual book I could find.
