The Postman

thepostmanThe Postman by David Brin

I think I could have really enjoyed this book, if I hadn’t already seen the horrible movie made from it. The wooden ploddings of Kevin Costner colored my perceptions of the titular character to the point that I didn’t really sympathize with him, the Postman, and he is the hero of the book. That aside, I enjoy a good post-apocalyptic survival story. David Brin has a good perspective on the future, but this novel came out in 1985, and is a little dated.¬† I see some similarities between this book and Cormac McCarthy’s The Road: both an interesting tour of a future America mostly destroyed and greatly changed, but the writing is much stronger in the McCarthy novel.
