Valhalla by Jere Peacock
Jere Peacock is a product of the Handy Writer’s Colony, which also produced James Jones. The money Jones made from From Here to Eternity helped bankroll the Colony. If you enjoyed The Thin Red Line or Norman Mailer’s The Naked and the Dead, You’ll surely enjoy Valhalla, but probably not quite as much. The oddly named characters like Giff Bohunk, and Cinamo Dallas are somewhat off-kilter and two-dimensional, stock characters from any shallow novel of WWII, and the pacing was so slow I was tempted a few times not to finish reading it. Grade: C-.
