Modern Life

Modern Life by Matthea Harvey

Another Public Library book. All three books I have read by Matthea Harvey have been surreal, weird, funny, wonderful…. Consider:

You Never Seemed So Human

So we married in the UFO:
they didn’t know what we meant
when you said pony and
I whispered mountain
in the chilly Hall of Collectibles

Quick, small gems like this share space with fat prose poems, and some linear series involving Robo-Boy, or terror. Beautiful and strong all the way through. Grade: A

Modern Life is published by Graywolf, a publisher that seems to publish nothing but quality work.

I really like the cover. I looked to see where the artwork came from, and the cover art was done by the poet herself.
